ODOT ASKING DRIVERS TO PREPARE FOR SNOWY TRAVEL

March 3, 2023 2:40 p.m.

The Oregon Department of Transportation is asking weekend drivers to prepare for snowy travel on mountain passes, and high elevation areas.

An ODOT release said crews will be treating roads throughout the weekend.

Snow is expected over mountain passes including the coast range, the Blue Mountains in eastern Oregon, the Cascades and southern Oregon and into California. Those who plan to travel over mountain passes should pack accordingly. That includes chains, warm clothes, snacks and water. Tires and wiper blades should be checked.

The release said the combination of heavy snow and high winds will reduce visibility. Those who need to stop along their journey should make sure to get off the highway so they don’t become a hazard for others.

Low elevation areas may see less or no snow, but crews will be out removing hazards left behind by last week’s storm, like branches and trees.
