COMMISSIONERS APPOINT CURT BOICE AS STATE REPRESENTATIVE

February 8, 2023 4:00 a.m.

Commissioners from Douglas, Coos, and Curry counties recently held a joint session in Coquille and chose Curry County Commissioner Court Boice to fill the House District 1 State Representative seat.

The seat was vacated by Representative David Brock Smith when he was appointed to the Oregon State Senate on January 11th.

Boice said, “This has been an exciting time, to say the least. I’ll have the responsibility of representing three times the number of Citizens that I did as Curry Commissioner. It is a tremendously humbling honor. No one will outwork me or care more”.

Representative Boice served as a Curry County commissioner since 2017. A release said he is eager to serve legislative committees such as Agriculture, Natural Resources, Land-use, Water, Housing and Homelessness and will remain a champion for natural resource industries and their economies as was his predecessor.

Throughout his life, Boice has served on numerous boards and committees on the south coast, including as a legislative assistant. He was on the Oregon State Marine Board for eight years.

Boice said, “In serving during the 82nd Legislative Session, I look forward to finding common solutions for Oregon issues, especially in regards to the Rural-Urban divide. I believe I’ll do my part to help close those gaps bringing various interests in Oregon together”.

Boice’s resignation from his commission seat is effective Thursday morning. He will be sworn into office at 11:00 a.m. on the floor of the Oregon House in Salem.
