SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT SEEKING NEW BOARD MEMBER

February 6, 2023 3:30 a.m.

The Douglas Soil and Water Conservation District is seeking a new board member.

A release said the district is a non-regulatory local government entity that seeks to provide technical assistance to local landowners. The goal is to help the community manage its land efficiently; increasing natural resource benefits for community livelihoods while preserving those natural resources at the same time.

DSWCD staff member Maggie Begoun said the agency needs a member of the public who lives in Zone 2. Begoun said this spans the Tyee area down through the east side of Roseburg, and out the North Umpqua River past Glide. Those applying must also own or manage 10 acres of land within the zone and be a registered voter.

Board members need to attend the monthly meetings, which take place on the third Wednesday of every month at 1:00 p.m. They also need to participate in decision-making regarding how the district will function, allocate funds and reach conservation goals.
