CELEBRATION OF LITERACY UNDERWAY FOR FEBRUARY

The 22nd annual Celebration of Literacy is underway for the month of February.

The series of events to promote the importance of literacy is presented by Altrusa International and the Umpqua Literacy Council.

Activities include:

*Valentines for Vets at the Boys and Girls Club of the Umpqua Valley, February 7th from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

*The Literacy Play for elementary students will be performed at Umpqua Community College on February 17th, 22nd, 24th and 28th at 10:00 a.m. Over 3,600 students are registered to attend

*The signature event is at Wildlife Safari on Saturday February 18th from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. All vehicles from Douglas County with children will be able to enter the drive-through for free. Books will be given out in the Safari Village, with many other activities happening.

*The Regional Battle of the Books takes place February 25th and will be held in Coos County

Other activities are happening at libraries around the county, throughout the month.
