WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR HIGHER ELEVATIONS WEDNESDAY

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 10:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m. Wednesday for higher elevations in the region.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said 5 to 10 inches of snow is expected with winds gusting as high as 35 miles per hour.

The Advisory area includes the eastern Douglas County foothills, south central and southern Oregon Cascades and the Siskiyou Mountains. It applies to Highway 138 east of near Diamond Lake, Highway 230, Highway 62 north of Union Creek, and Highway 140 near Lake of the Woods, mainly above 3,000 feet.

Forecasters said travel could be very difficult. Hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. Snowfall rates could exceed one inch per hour between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Drivers should slow down and allow extra time to reach their destination. Carry tire chains and be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities.
