COMMISSIONER TALKS ABOUT ROLE OF GOVERNMENT AT THURSDAY EVENT

Douglas County Commissioner Tim Freeman was a panelist and host for this month’s Project Leadership workshop, on Thursday.

A County government release said the topic was on the Role of Government. Project Leadership is a program of the Roseburg Area Chamber of Commerce. The full-day event gave Freeman and Roseburg Mayor Larry Rich the opportunity to speak about how the various levels of government function in Douglas County.

Freeman provided an overview of the role county commissioners play as the elected administrators of the county. Participants learned about how county government serves the 112,000 citizens as a large organization operating with over 600 employees working in over 35 departments and divisions under the administration of Freeman and Commissioners Tom Kress and Chris Boice, along with eight other elected county officials.

Project Leadership is a nine-month program designed to strengthen and educate community minded business leaders with the goal of fostering dedication to the community. The class of 2023 is the 32nd group to go through the program. For the first time ever, it is an all-female class of 12. Participants are sponsored by their employers which include various types of companies around the area.
