A missing man has been found safe in California.

An update from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday morning 73-year old Richard Doffing of Glendale, was located on the side of the road with his pickup, near Stockton, California. Doffing was taken to an area hospital as a precaution.

As part of efforts to locate Doffing, DCSO activated a Missing Endangered Person Alert. Working in conjunction with the Oregon Department of Transportation and Oregon State Police, information about Doffing and his vehicle were displayed on highway reader boards throughout Oregon asking drivers to be on the lookout for him and to call police if he was located. Lieutenant Brad O’Dell said the purpose of MEPA is to help locate individuals who may be vulnerable due to a cognitive ability, age or health related concern.

O’Dell said DCSO would like to thank the public for their assistance in looking for Doffing and helping to reunite him with his family.

DCSO was assisted by Search and Rescue, Oregon State Police, the Oregon Department of Transportation and numerous community members.

Doffing went missing after leaving his home in Glendale Wednesday morning. He has advanced dementia and it was believed that he might be trying to travel to Texas.
