GOP PRECINCT COMMITTEE PERSONS TO NOMINATE POTENTIAL LEGISLATOR

On Saturday, Republican precinct committee persons from Douglas, Coos and Curry counties will meet to nominate between 3 and 5 people as a potential state senator to complete the term of Dallas Heard, who resigned effective January 1st.

Douglas County Republican Central Committee Vice Chair Michaela Hammerson said the group will meet starting at 10:30 a.m. at the Coquille Community Center on Birch Street in Coquille.

County commissioners from those three counties will meet at a future currently undetermined date to select one person to fill the vacancy. That person would become Oregon’s state senator in district one through the end of 2024.

Candidates expressing interest include current State Representative from District One David Brock Smith, who lives in Curry County. Douglas County residents who have put their name forward are: Tim Allen, Tom Dole, Doug Mendenhall, Todd Vaughn and Richard Vander Velden.
