$940 million is the estimate for Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot drawing.

A release from the Oregon Lottery said the largest Mega Millions prize ever won in Oregon was $3 million in 2019, when two players won on separate occasions that year.

Since the Mega Millions jackpot began this run on October 15th, the Oregon Lottery has sold more than $11.4 million in tickets. Approximately a third of those sales will be returned to state beneficiaries to support economic development, education, veteran services and more.

The release said there have been just three Mega Millions jackpots larger than Friday’s estimated prize since the game began in 2002. The largest Mega Millions jackpot was $1.537 billion in 2018, with one winning ticket sold in South Carolina. Mega Millions tickets are sold in 45 states along with Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The Oregon Lottery recommends that players always sign the back of winning tickets to ensure they can claim their prize. In the event of winning a jackpot, players should consult with a trusted financial planner or similar professional to develop a plan for their winnings. Players have a year to claim their prize.
