A Winter Weather Advisory is in place through Friday at 4:00 p.m. for mountain areas in southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said wet snow is expected with rising snow levels. An additional 8 to 14 inches is possible above 5,500 feet through Friday afternoon. Winds are expected to gust between 25 and 40 miles per hour.

The Advisory area includes the south central and southern Oregon Cascades and the Siskiyou Mountains including Diamond Lake, Crater Lake, Willamette Pass and Lake of the Woods. It applies to portions of highways 140, 62, 138, 58 and 230.

Forecasters said travel could be very difficult to impossible. Blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.

Drivers should slow down and allow extra time to reach their destination. Carry tire chains and be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities.
