NEEWOLLAH PARADE RETURNING TO DOWNTOWN ROSEBURG FOR HALLOWEEN

October 27, 2022 10:00 a.m.

Roseburg’s Neewollah Parade will return on Halloween for the first time in three years.

A City of Roseburg release said the grand marshal will be Police Chief Gary Klopfenstein. The parade is part of Roseburg 150 Sesquicentennial events.

Participants should gather in costume, on the steps of the Douglas County Courthouse at 5:00 p.m. for a group photo. At 5:20 p.m. the parade will move from the courthouse to Southeast Jackson Street, where children can trick-or-treat from business to business. The goal is for the parade to move south down Jackson Street to Southeast Lane Avenue and then head back north on Jackson Street. The street will be closed to vehicles during the event.

Architect Paul Bentley will transform into Captain Jack Sparrow for the entire day on Monday. Extra pirates will join him and wife Terry, to unleash a few surprises aboard the 20-foot Black Pearl, a wooden ship façade stretching across the front of Bentley’s Jackson Street office.

Event organizers include former City Councilor Stacey Crowe and (Re)Discover Downtown co-founder Eric Andrews. They have been working to recruit candy sponsors and volunteers and organize logistics.

Roseburg’s Neewollah Parade began in 1933. It was canceled during World War II and in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Virtual events were held the past two years.
