On Wednesday, Douglas County Commissioners Tim Freeman, Chris Boice and Tom Kress held a special ceremony in honor and remembrance of the victims, first responders and families affected by the events on September 1st, 2001, as a “Promise to Never Forget”.

Commissioners invited first responders from local fire departments, fire districts, and law enforcement to help pay tribute to those who perished in the terrorist acts twenty-one years ago. Commissioner Freeman asked Sheriff John Hanlin and City of Roseburg Assistant Fire Chief Tyler Christopherson to place a wreath in honor of first responders and in remembrance of the lives lost on 9/11.

Commissioners called on citizens of the county to observe this Sunday, September 11th as Patriot Day and the National Day of Service and Remembrance. They asked residents to honor and remember the 2,996 people who lost their lives and the over 6,000 who were injured, along with the heroes that selflessly rushed into the rubble to save lives on that fateful day.

A number of local first responders attended Wednesday’s events.
