RED FLAG WARNING THROUGH 9:00 P.M. TUESDAY

August 9, 2022 4:10 a.m.

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect through 9:00 p.m. Tuesday for the Southern Oregon Cascades and surrounding areas.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said lightning and very dry vegetation will likely result in new fire starts. Gusty thunderstorm winds could contribute to fire spread. Despite rainfall, initial attack resources could be overwhelmed and holdover fires are possible. Forecasters said in areas to the south, gusty wind with low relative humidity and critically dry vegetation could also greatly increase the spread potential of any new and existing fires Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Winds of ten to fifteen miles per hour with gusts up to twenty-five miles per hour are expected. Near thunderstorms, quickly shifting winds up to fifty miles per hour are possible.
