A Roseburg man was taken into custody after attempting to out-run police on Friday morning.

Roseburg Police officers contacted the 34-year-old around 10:45 a.m. after he allegedly stole $66 worth of merchandise from a business in the 2100 block of Stewart Parkway, according to an RPD report. The man reportedly fled the scene but was later located and officers told him he was under arrest.

The suspect took off running again, according to police, and was finally taken into custody after a short pursuit. The man reportedly put up a fight and kicked an officer in the chest while being taken into custody.

The man was charged with third degree theft, third degree escape, resisting arrest and harassment. Officers also learned he had a warrant for a parole violation out of Marion County. He’s being held without bail at Douglas County Corrections.
