Sutherlin Police jailed a man after he allegedly attempted to assault officers on Sunday.

An SPD report said shortly before 9:00 p.m. 53-year old Shawn Pruitt was called in for being intoxicated at a business in the 1300 block of South Calapooia Street. Pruitt was found minutes later about a mile away by another officer and was described as “clearly intoxicated”.

The report said Pruitt became belligerent and allegedly shoved his hands in an officer’s face, before he was taken to the ground. While on the ground, he refused to place his hand behind his back. As he was being arrested, he allegedly kicked three officers while handcuffed. While next to a patrol vehicle, Pruitt reportedly pinned an officer’s leg against the car and would not release it.

The report said Pruitt turned to face an officer and sprayed saliva in their face while screaming at the officer. He was eventually placed in the patrol vehicle. On the way to the jail, Pruitt allegedly made threats of bodily harm against two officers and stated that when he got out of jail, he would shoot them or somehow harm them.

Pruitt was charged with resisting arrest, three counts of attempting to assault a peace officer, aggravated harassment and for second-degree disorderly conduct. He was held without bail.
