PACKARD TURKEY FIRES EARLY TUESDAY

July 26, 2022 5:10 p.m.

Early Tuesday morning just before 2:30 a.m., crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association and Canyonville-South Umpqua Fire District responded to a 1/8th of an acre fire on Bureau of Land Management land along Packard Creek Road in the Canyonville area.

Public Information Office Rachael Pope said upon investigation, an additional small fire, only .01 acres in size, was found just before 3:00 a.m. This was .03 miles northeast of the original fire, in privately owned and managed lands. Pope said this small burn pile was extinguished immediately, and resources returned to help aid with fire suppression of the original fire.

By around 2:45 p.m. the fire was 100 percent trailed, mopped up and cleared.

Both fires were found to be human caused and are currently under investigation.
