CITY TAKING APPLICATIONS FOR CHARTER REVIEW COMMITTEE

April 14, 2022 3:40 a.m.

The City of Roseburg is taking applications for a new, limited-duration Roseburg City Charter Review Committee, which will work to help update the current City Charter.

A City release said the special limited-duration committee is expected to meet for about six months starting Wednesday May 25th. The six-member committee will work with City staff and the City attorney to review and propose amendments to language or sections of the charter. The committee reports to the Roseburg City Council, which must first approve amendments to the charter before the proposed changes go in front of Roseburg voters in May of 2023.

The release said candidates must live in Roseburg. There are vacancies for three citizen members. Three Roseburg city councilors: Bob Cotterell, Sheri Moothart and Andrea Zielinski, have already been appointed to the committee, along with Assistant City Manager/City Recorder Amy Sowa.

The group will meet on the fourth Wednesday of each month. The deadline to apply is Friday April 29th at 5:00 p.m. The three councilors will review the applications and make recommendations, with the council expected to appoint the citizen members on May 9th.
