Oregon tops 7,000 COVID-related deaths, cases continue to decline

The Oregon Health Authority continues to see a decrease in weekly COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths, but the state passed a grim milestone last week.

The OHA reports that Oregon has now had over 7,000 COVID-19 related deaths. The daily statewide update reported on Wednesday that there were 30 new COVID-related deaths, bringing the total to 7,013.

Oregon ranks second lowest among states in the number of cases per capita, according to the OHA. However, the state organization reminds residents the pandemic isn’t over and COVID-19 poses a risk to many people.

The weekly COVID-19 data report showed that Oregon has seen a 19% decline in new cases, a 31% decrease in hospitalizations and the number of COVID-related deaths dropped from 142 to 90, in week-to-week tracking.

Oregon’s test positivity dropped to 2.5%, the lowest it has been since mid-July of 2021, the OHA reports.

On the daily COVID report, the OHA showed 314 new confirmed and presumptive cases for Wednesday. Multnomah County reported the highest case count in Oregon on Wednesday, with 106.

Locally, Douglas County had seven new confirmed and presumptive cases, according to the OHA.
