A Roseburg man who became well known in Douglas County for his show of support after the Umpqua Community College shooting in 2015, suffered a stroke earlier this month leaving the community he’s known for serving looking for ways to help him.

Justin Troxel suffered a stroke on March 10th while working in the shop of his business, ManCrafts.

The 37-year-old was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center and later airlifted to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield.

Troxel was transferred out of the ICU earlier this week and into the neurological department, according to his family.

Troxel, a 2003 graduate of Roseburg High School, utilized his metal working skills and creativity by designing “UCCStrong Roseburg Signs” to raise funds for the UCC Strong Foundation, shortly after the shooting.

With the help of friends and additional volunteers, Troxel was able to raise $140,000 to help those who were directly affected by the tragedy.

According to his family, Troxel has lost mobility on the right side of his body. His speech has been impacted and he’s unable to see out of his right eye.

Doctors have told the family that they are hopeful that Troxel’s mobility and speech can be improved through therapy and continued recovery, but they say his vision loss is likely permanent.

Fundraising efforts are ongoing and the family is accepting letters and monetary donations to go towards medical and other expenses.

Letters can be sent to:
