5TH CANDIDATE RUNNING FOR COMMISSIONER POSITION 3

A 5th candidate is running for Douglas County Commissioner Position 3.

Bev Ashton filed for the seat on March 4th.

Ashton told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that she is a resident and property owner in Camas Valley. Ashton and her husband moved to the area from Idaho in 2015 and have a small ranch where they raise beef cattle.

Aston said her professional career provided her with a good background and experience in public service. Ashton retired from Juvenile Justice in Idaho after 20 years of service. For 15 of those, she was a District Liaison for the Idaho Department of Corrections. Ashton said her service area included 8 counties in south central Idaho’s Fifth Judicial District where she interfaced with both state and county elected officials. That included magistrate judges, county prosecutors, defense attorneys, public health workers and many others. Ashton said that involved using what she called a “balanced approach” specific to the target population for accountability, community protection and community development.

Ashton said she has served on numerous government and public work groups and committees, though she has not held elective office.

Ashton said she is in support of small government practices, and filed her candidacy after reviewing current candidates and having conversations with local voters. Ashton said she will not run “a big expensive campaign”. If elected, she also plans to serve only a partial term in order to return to the staggered schedule for terms of office on the Board of Commissioners.
