March 2, 2022 9:20 a.m.

A Myrtle Creek man was hurt, when his full-size pickup pulling a trailer load of rock, left the roadway and went down an embankment, before landing in the creek below on Tuesday afternoon.

A report from Myrtle Creek Police said just after 3:30 p.m. police and medical crews were dispatched to a traffic crash at the intersection of North Myrtle Road and Springbrook Road.

Detective Kevin Taggert said when officers arrived, they found the vehicle sitting in the creek. The 54-year old was still inside the pickup and had facial injuries. Responders were able to assist the driver to the roadway, where he was checked out by EMTs and then released. The man showed no signs of impairment and it was determined that the wreck was the result of a medical event.

Taggart said a tow company had a lengthy recovery effort, but were able to get the vehicles removed from the creek and brought up the embankment. Myrtle Creek Fire Department conducted traffic control during the recovery, as North Myrtle Road and Springbrook Road were closed for a time.

Taggart said as a result of the crash, all the mailboxes on North Myrtle Road for Springbrook residents were destroyed. A large amount of mail was collected at the scene and delivered back to the post office.
