A transient was jailed for allegedly resisting arrest on Monday night.

A report from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at about 8:10 p.m. a deputy observed a sedan which had crashed into the ditch in the 400 block of John Long Road near Rice Hill. The 40-year old admitted to driving and showed signs of impairment. The suspect performed poorly on field sobriety tests.

When the deputy placed the suspect under arrest, the man attempted to pull away, and climb back into his vehicle. He was held at taser point until additional deputies arrived. The transient allegedly continued to resist and once in handcuffs, repeatedly smashed his head into the pavement.

40-year old John Baker was charged with resisting arrest, reckless driving, third degree criminal mischief and for DUII. Bail was set at $23,750.
