A 16-year old male, listed as a runaway, has been charged in a stolen vehicle and pursuit case in Sutherlin on Wednesday.

Captain Kurt Sorenson of the Sutherlin Police said at about 10:00 a.m. an officer located a suspicious sedan in the area of State and Central. Sorenson said the officer attempted to stop the vehicle for traffic violations and later learned the car was stolen out of Portland. The driver eluded the officer at high speeds east of Sutherlin to the Nonpariel area. The top speed during that pursuit was around 90 miles per hour. Sorenson said the vehicle then turned around and headed back to Sutherlin. The pursuit was terminated about a mile east of town due to safety concerns.

Sorenson said officers found the vehicle parked at a large trailer park at 550 South State Street. Officers learned that the driver of the vehicle was associated with one of the residences inside the park. The driver later jumped the back fence of that residence and ran through numerous yards. The teen was ultimately caught.

Sorenson said the driver had 3 warrants for his arrest out of Multnomah County. The suspect was lodged at the Douglas County Juvenile Department on the warrants, a runaway hold, and the charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, felony elude and reckless driving.
