Youth theater returns to Riverbend Live! in Winston this weekend.

The popular summer entertainment series is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Having an opportunity for Winston area young people to learn about acting was an early goal of the non-profit organization that guides the July events. Youth theater began in Riverbend Live’s third year. Some who have acted in youth theater have gone on to get involved in theater programs in high school, college and even with Umpqua Actors Community Theatre.

This year, Jesika Barnes is directing “Firebringer”, a musical comedy about a tribe of cave people. This year Barnes expanded the program beyond acting and singing, and helped actors learn to create their character’s clothing and props.

“Firebringer” will take to the stage at Riverbend Park at 7:00 p.m. both Friday and Saturday. Admission is free but those attending can contribute to the costs of the series when buckets are passed during intermission.
