The Jack Fire is burning in 1,500 acres, on the North Umpqua Ranger District, approximately 30 miles east of Glide, as of Tuesday evening.

Information from the U.S. Forest Service said the fire is burning in grass and timber east of Jack Road and west of Jack Creek. The blaze was initially reported at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.

9 engines, 2 hand crews, 3 water tenders, 3 heavy lift helicopters, 1 light helicopter, 3 air tankers and 2 fixed wings are assigned to the fire at last report. Pacific Northwest Type 2 Incident Management Team began to oversee the fire on Tuesday night.

A 15-mile section of Highway 138E remains closed due to the Jack Fire between Steamboat and Slide Creek. Staff with the Oregon Department of Transportation has set a westbound soft closure at the Lemolo Lake junction. Information from ODOT said that due to steep slopes in the fire area, the highway has been affected by burning snags and falling rocks. ODOT said the highway closure is likely to extend into the weekend.
