Firefighters are actively suppressing a wildfire near Steamboat, approximately 30 miles east of Glide, on the North Umpqua Ranger District.

Steven Beri from the Umpqua National Forest said the Jack Fire, listed at last check at 900 acres, was reported at 5:00 p.m. Monday. Beri said it is burning in grass and timber east of Jack Creek Road and west of Jack Creek. Douglas Forest Protective Association and local resources utilized smoke detection cameras located on Mt. Scott, near Glide, to isolate the point of ignition. Beri said as a result, firefighters and local resources started initial attack immediately after locating the wildfire.

A release said the fire was very active throughout the afternoon Monday and moderated during the night. A section of Highway 138E is closed between milepost 40 at Steamboat and milepost 55, which is eight miles east of the Dry Creek Store.

Beri said numerous resources aided in initial attack efforts including mutual aid from the Oregon Department of Forestry as well as support from a type 3 agency crew.

Hot and dry conditions are expected to persist. Fire danger remains high and public use restrictions are in effect.
