A natural cover fire burned a quarter of an acre of grass Monday afternoon about four miles northwest of Myrtle Creek near Interstate Five milepost 113 southbound.

Kyle Reed of the Douglas Forest Protective Association said crews from DFPA and from both the Myrtle Creek and Winston-Dillard Fire departments arrived on the scene of the incident around 4:15 p.m. Reed said prior to their arrival, several passing motorists had stopped and attempted to suppress the fire. The Milepost 113 Fire was quickly contained as it was surrounded on three sides by Interstate Five, the exit 113 off ramp and Clarks Branch Road.

Reed said the cause of the Milepost 113 Fire is under investigation.
