In an update to the flag order issued earlier in the week, on Friday Governor Kate Brown ordered all flags at Oregon public institutions to remain at full-staff on Saturday, in recognition of Peace Officers Memorial Day.

The release said the day is set aside every year during National Police Week to honor those who lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

Brown said “Peace Officers Memorial Day pays tribute to fallen officers at all levels of law enforcement, including local, state, federal, tribal and military law enforcement”. Brown said, “Today we honor our fallen officers, thank them for their service and offer solace to their families and friends”.

The update said according to U.S. Flag code, flags should remain at full-staff in years when Peace Officers Memorial Day coincides with Armed Forces Day.
