Crews are making good progress on the Marshall’s Place Fire.
Kyle Reed of the Douglas Forest Protective Association said firefighters took advantage of favorable conditions overnight. The fire, which was spotted at around 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, is burning four miles north of Tiller. Reed said crews reported that fire activity decreased significantly after sunset due to increased humidity levels and decreased wind speed. Hand crews and bull dozers assigned to the incident completed containment lines around the entire perimeter of the fire by early Wednesday morning. The Marshall’s Place Fire is still estimated to be around 200 acres, but Reed said more accurate mapping will be conducted in the coming days.
Reed said 110 personnel from the Douglas Forest Protective Association, the Oregon Department of Forestry, Coos Forest Protective Association, industrial landowners and private contractors are assigned to the fire. Smoke from the interior of the fire may be visible for the next couple of days.
The cause of the Marshall’s Place Fire remains under investigation.
