A Sutherlin man was jailed following a reported assault on Sunday.

Captain Kurt Sorenson of Sutherlin Police said just before 3:30 p.m. 51-year old David Fugate was arrested following an alleged altercation between the suspect and a victim in the 500 block of South Calapooia. Sorenson said Fugate reportedly struck the back of the victim’s thigh with a piece of metal tubing, hit her in the back of the head and placed his hands around her throat.

Fugate was charged with second degree assault and strangulation. Bail was set at $256,250.
