2 boys, 10 and 11-years old, are reported to be involved in starting the fire that fully engulfed the Winston Church of the Nazarene on Saturday.

A report from Winston Police said information about the fire was first called in just before 2:30 p.m. Multiple fire agencies assisted the Winston Dillard Fire Department in extinguishing the fire.

Parents of the two juveniles came forward with information on their child’s involvement with starting the fire outside the structure. The investigation into the fire is ongoing. It will be forwarded to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.

Winston Police are being assisted by the Oregon State Police Arson Unit and the State Fire Marshal’s Office. The report said it does not appear that this is any type of hate crime. No one was injured in the fire. The church appears to be a total loss.

The Church of the Nazarene also serves as the local food pantry for the area. Anyone wishing to assist the church and the pantry can contact Pastor Cindy Slaymaker at: geeof4@gmail.com
