TWO MEN ARRESTED FOR MANUFACTURING DESTRUCTIVE DEVICES

Two men have been arrested in connection with destructive devices that were located at Roseburg High School on Thursday November 12th.

Sergeant Jeff Eichenbusch of Roseburg Police said that afternoon RPD and the Oregon State Police Explosives Unit investigated several suspicious devices that were found in the school’s parking lot. At the time, it was suspected that they were potentially altered fireworks. The Explosives Unit responded and took possession of the objects. Eichenbusch said authorities are still waiting on confirmation as to what the devices contained.

Through an ongoing investigation by an RPD school resource officer, along with assistance from the Roseburg School District, two persons of interest were identified in the case. The men are brothers who live in the neighborhood adjacent to the school. Eichenbusch said investigators developed information that the brothers made the items and had thrown them over the fence into the school’s parking lot. Eichenbusch said at this time, there is nothing to lead police to believe they were trying to harm anyone, or damage any property.

About 60 students and 20 staff were evacuated from RHS when the devices were first spotted late in the afternoon.

22-year old Jonathan Long, and 21-year old Tyler Ganieany were both charged with unlawful manufacture of a destructive device, which is a Class C felony in Oregon. Both are on probation and are facing additional charges for violating their probation conditions.
