The Oregon State Police Explosives Unit removed suspicious devices from the Roseburg High campus on Thursday evening.
Sergeant Jeff Eichenbusch of Roseburg Police said just after 4:30 p.m. a school custodian found the objects in the front parking lot near a fence which blocks access to some buildings when the school is closed.
Eichenbusch told News Radio 1240 KQEN there were multiple devices, all very small, which were sitting in various locations. An initial report said they could be altered fireworks.
Staff from Roseburg Public Schools evacuated the approximately 20 staff and 60 students that were on campus at that hour. RPD officers and deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office blocked access to the campus while they waited for the OSP staff to drive up from Medford.
Eichenbusch told KQEN that OSP technicians saw no signs that would lead them to be significantly concerned about the devices. The devices will be taken apart with special equipment in the next few days, to make a final determination as to what they are.
Eichenbusch said at this point, law enforcement and school officials have no idea as to who may have placed the devices on the campus.
The scene was cleared by around 8:00 p.m.
