A Roseburg area man has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Medford on the charge of attempted sexual exploitation of a child, after he allegedly used a hidden camera to attempt to record lewd images of a minor girl.

A release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office – District of Oregon, said the one count indictment was returned against 48-year old Robert Roady.

The release said Roady was originally charged in Douglas County Circuit Court with nine counts of invasion of privacy in violation of Oregon law. Roady has remained in custody since his arrest on October 19th. The federal indictment is an adoption of the state case, according to the release. It said once Douglas County prosecutors dismiss the state matter, Roady will be transferred to federal custody for an appearance at a later date in Eugene.

The case is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Roady is being held on $500,000 bail.

Roady was a police officer for the Roseburg VA. A statement from VA Public Affairs Director Tim Parish said “The allegations are abhorrent. Roseburg Health Care is taking appropriate steps to hold this individual accountable and has taken his badge and service weapon. He has been suspended indefinitely with further administrative actions pending”. Parish said, “VA has made clear that it will hold employees accountable when they fail to live up to the high standards Veterans and taxpayers expect, and that’s exactly what we are doing in this case”.
