November 5, 2020 4:00 p.m.

The Oregon Health Authority reported the highest daily COVID-19 case count for Oregon since the pandemic began, on Thursday.

805 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19 were announced along with 5 more deaths. That raises the state’s death toll to 710 and brings the state’s case total to 47,839.

Governor Kate Brown said “COVID-19 is spreading in Oregon at an unprecedented rate, driven in no small measure by in-person, indoor social gatherings”. Brown said residents are most likely to get COVID-19 from family and friends. She said, “Let me be clear: we cannot allow this disease to continue to spread so rapidly in our communities. Lives are at stake”. Brown said she will take further action to stop the spread of COVID-19 and needs Oregonians to continue to do their part as well.

Brown, State Health Officer Dean Sidelinger and Rachael Banks, Public Health Director at the Oregon Health Authority speak to the media at a press conference on Friday at 1:00 p.m.

Sidelinger said the tools to manage the spread of the disease include Oregonians getting strict with themselves: not gathering or attending parties of any kind, wearing face coverings when outside the household and physically distancing at all times.
