COVID-19 has claimed 1 more life in Douglas County.

An update from the Douglas County COVID-19 Response Team said 15 more people have received positive test results with 2 new presumptive cases, as of Thursday.

County Public Health Officer Dr. Bob Dannenhoffer said the 10th COVID-19 death was a 62-year old woman who passed away Wednesday in Roseburg. She tested positive when admitted to the hospital on October 14th. In the interest of privacy, no further information will be released.

The total number of cases of COVID-19 in the county has jumped to 428. Of those, 379 are people that have had positive test results and 49 are presumptive. 4 COVID-19 patients are being hospitalized locally. 78 people are in isolation. 389 are in quarantine. That means the staff with the Douglas Public Health Network are supporting 467 people that are either in isolation or quarantine. 16,226 people have tested negative for COVID-19 in the county.

Dannenhoffer said given the rise in cases, residents are being reminded to stay home if sick, feeling sick or not fully recovered from being sick. He said that means not only staying home from work and school, but staying home from all other activities and social events. Dannenhoffer said the last several large local outbreaks were people that were sick and still went to school, work, poker club and dinner parties.

Dannenhoffer said in one case, a local student had been sick and went back to school before she was better. After exposing 40 others, all of those people will have to be in quarantine for two weeks. Those 40 families will have to take time off to take care of them as well. He said the economic impact of going back to school or work before being well is enormous.

The next drive through testing clinic with the Douglas Public Health Network will be Friday in Roseburg.
