MAYOR, COUNCIL RACES, BALLOT MEASURES IN DOUGLAS COUNTY

A number of contested races for mayor and city council positions were on the ballot in Douglas County on Tuesday.

Incumbent Ward Four Position Two Roseburg City Councilor Ashley Hicks was defeated by challenger Patrice Sipos by a margin of 57 percent to 42 percent in unofficial data from the Douglas County Clerk’s Office.

The other contested race on the Roseburg council was for an open Ward One Position Two seat. It went to Sheri Moothart who beat Patrick Lewandowski 54 percent to 45 percent.

On the Sutherlin City Council, Larry Whitaker bested Seth Vincent and Joe Groussman. Whitaker had 36 percent to 33 percent to Vincent and 28 percent for Groussman.

In Myrtle Creek, Allan Kusler has a ten-vote lead over Diana Larson in a Position One Race, leading 48 percent to 47 percent.

In Position Five, Bill Burnett beat L. Terry Herrington 60 percent to 39 percent.

In Riddle, Bill Duckett has a narrow lead in the race for mayor, ahead of Ken Moore, by a margin of 50 percent to 48 percent.

Sarah Hicks beat Decembre Karels in the Riddle Position Three council race. The vote was 49 percent to 38 percent.

Yoncalla’s race for mayor saw Stacey Atwell-Keister beat Kelli Stevens, 50 percent to 45 percent.

In ballot measures, the advisory question regarding moving Idaho’s border to include Douglas County went down to defeat 57 percent to 43 percent. The measure asked if Douglas County Commissioners, State Representatives and State Senators should work toward the proposal.

City of Winston voters said no to a plan to relax rules regarding where marijuana dispensaries could be located in that city. The vote was 55 percent to 45 percent. Voters did agree to tax the sale of recreational marijuana in a 64 percent to 32 percent vote.

In Reedsport, voters also agreed to tax the sale of recreational marijuana. The vote was 55 percent to 45 percent
