The Thielsen Fire burning near Diamond Lake has burned over 9,700 acres and is 22 percent contained.

An update from staff with the U.S. Forest Service said a Level 3 “Go!” evacuation is still in effect for the Diamond Lake area.

On Saturday, high humidity and scattered showers reduced fire activity. The fire received up to a half inch of rain. Resources continued to construct and secure fire line along the southern and western edges of the fire.

Hand crews and engines are critical to holding the fire along Highway 138E in the area adjacent to Diamond Lake to protect direct threats to structures. As heavy equipment constructs fire line, hand crews are working to hold and mop up along the western edge of the fire. Personnel are continuing to focus on direct attack where possible, protecting critical infrastructure and securing and holding the fire’s southern edge near the northern boundary by Diamond Lake. The update said they will continue to secure and mop up along containment lines and improve the defense of structures around the Cinnamon Butte communications tower.

393 people are assigned to the fire.
