A Douglas County man has been arrested for online sexual corruption charges.

Captain Kurt Sorenson of the Sutherlin Police Department said Thursday night at about 8:20 p.m. 53-year old Billy Cutler Jr. was detained. Charges include first and second degree counts of online sexual corruption of a child and for luring a minor.

A release from the SPD did not provide specific details regarding what led to the arrest. It said, “due to the nature and sensitivity of the crimes committed and the on-going investigation, the Sutherlin Police Department is unable to release how the information of Cutler’s crimes were committed”.

Oregon Revised Statutes define online sexual corruption in the first degree as a “person who is 18 years of age is older and knowingly uses an online communication to solicit a child to engage in sexual contact and intentionally takes a substantial step toward physically meeting with the child”.

Sorenson said parents are strongly encouraged to monitor their children’s use of smart phones, tablets and other devices used to access the internet and social media apps.

Cutler was detained on $200,000 bail.
