WYDEN DEMANDS ANSWERS REGARDING MIGRANT CHILDREN

U.S. Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon teamed with Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren on Monday to demand answers from the Trump administration regarding migrant children.
A release from Wyden said they asked about allegations that confidential information disclosed by unaccompanied migrant children to mental health professionals is being distorted and used against those children by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to pursue deportation or prolonged detention.
In letters to Assistant Secretary for the Administration of Children and Families, Lynn Johnson and ICE Acting Director Matthew Albence, the senators asked about the allegations that the Office of Refugee and Resettlement shares confidential information obtained through private sessions between unaccompanied migrant children and their therapists, with ICE officials. The senators said it appears that this information is then used by ICE and U.S. Department of Justice officials during asylum proceedings and court filings arguing against asylum.
The senators expressed concern that the reporting practices run counter to rules that say the ORR must act in the best interest of migrant children in their care. They requested answers to their concerns by March 20th.
