Five Douglas County organizations will share more than $20,000 in grants from the Coquille Tribal Community Fund for programs addressing poverty, health and other community needs.
A release from the Tribe said it announced its 2020 grants this week. Money is being distributed to 71 community groups in five Oregon counties. The grants totaled just over $366,000.
Douglas County groups getting assistance include:
*Aviva Health will receive $5,000 to expand its denture program.
*St. Vincent de Paul in Myrtle Creek gets $5,000 for its “Funding and Clothing Our Future” program for children in rural south Douglas County.
*Roseburg’s Friendly Kitchen is being given $5,000 for its “Frozen Fridays” weekend meal program.
*The Reedsport Rotary Foundation gets $4,000 to help renovate the Henderson Park playground.
*Umpqua United Soccer Club will receive $1,500 for its “Empowering Girls Through Soccer” program.
The release said Douglas County is one of the counties congressionally designated as part of the Coquille Tribe’s service area, because a substantial number of tribal members live in the area. The fund solicits applications from groups in September and distributes the grants each February.
The fund is supported by revenue from the Tribe’s Mill Casino-Hotel and RV Park on Coos Bay. To learn more about the tribal fund, go to www.coquilletribe.org and click on the “Community” tab.
Since 2001, the fund has distributed nearly $6.8 million dollars
