UMPQUA FISHERMAN'S ASSOCIATION TO MEET TUESDAY

February 20, 2020 3:45 a.m.
Umpqua Fisherman’s Association will hear about the possibilities of new boat access on the lower South Umpqua River at its meeting on Tuesday night.
Steve Clark, a fish biologist for the Bureau of Land Management will be representing the Umpqua Fishing Access Workgroup at the meeting. The workgroup is made up of representatives from the BLM, Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Oregon State Marine Board, U.S. Forest Service, American Whitewater, Trout Unlimited, the Cow Creek Tribe and several groups.
Clark said the workgroup is dedicated to improve access in the Umpqua Basin at existing sites, and to develop new fishing access points. Information from the Backcountry Hunters and Anglers website said “Access has emerged as a priority issue for American hunters and anglers, and lack of access is cited by sportsmen and women as the number one reason why we stop pursuing our passions”.
UFA officer Mike Brochu said many of its members are new to the area and want to know where and how to fish the local rivers.
The UFA meeting will be held at the Abby’s Annex on Northeast Stephens in Roseburg. A social time is held at 6:00 p.m. with the meeting beginning at 7:00 p.m. Call 637-5821 for more information.
