RANGER-LED SNOWSHOE WALKS UNDERWAY AT CRATER LAKE

December 9, 2019 3:30 a.m.
Ranger-guided snowshoe walks have begun for the 2019-2020 winter season at Crater Lake National Park.
Marsha McCabe at Crater Lake said the walks take place on Saturdays, Sundays and most holidays except for Christmas, through April 26th. They will also be offered daily from December 26th through January 5th and from March 25th through March 29th. Snowshoes are provided free of charge and no previous snowboarding experience is necessary.
McCabe said walks start at 1:00 p.m. and last for 2 hours. They cover 1 to 2 miles of moderate to strenuous terrain. Routes vary but most walks begin at Rim Village and explore the forests and meadows along the rim of the lake.
Space on each tour is limited and advance reservations are required. For more information and to sign up call the park’s visitors center at 541-594-3100. There is no cost for the walk except for the park entrance fee of $15.
The park’s north entrance and Rim Drive are closed to cars in the winter, but the west and south entrances and the road to Rim Village are plowed daily and are open to automobiles throughout the year.
