Congressman Peter DeFazio led floor debate on Friday in the House pushing for a joint resolution to end the president’s emergency declaration to fund a border wall.
DeFazio, Chairman of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, said the vote was third time the chamber voted to terminate an emergency declaration he said is “nothing more than a power grab to fulfill a campaign promise and a complete disregard of our constitutional system of separation of powers”.
The resolution passed 236-174 with 11 Republicans and one independent joining Democrats in voting yes. The Senate passed the same resolution earlier last week. It is now headed to the White House where it is expected to get a veto from President Donald Trump.
