This is Labor Day and that means there are a number of closures.

Federal, state, county and city offices are closed. No regular mail will be delivered. School will not be in session. Banks and credit unions are not open. Professional offices are closed. Most retail outlets will be open, though some may operate with reduced hours.

The Umpqua River Lighthouse and Coastal History Museum in Winchester Bay, operated by county government, will be open its normal operating hours.

Labor Day was first observed 128 years ago. On June 28th of that year, President Grover Cleveland signed a law marking the first Monday of September of each year a national holiday.
