Warmer and drier weather is returning to the Umpqua Basin over the next few days which will spell a “watch out” situation for visitors to the Umpqua National Forest, according to officials.
Pam Sichting of the UNF said visitors should remain careful in the woods and stay informed on current fire restrictions. Sichting said Level 1 Public Use restrictions are in effect limiting the use of campfires to approved facilities or in the wilderness areas, Smoking is only allowed in vehicles except in locations where there are inflammable fuels. The use of internal combustion engines is limited on forest roads.
Fire fighters are holding the Steamboat Creek Fire at 1.6 acres. Crews continue to mop up the hotspots near the fire perimeter. Ground patrols and aerial detection flights will search for any holdover or new starts.
