Firefighters are making significant progress toward extinguishing multiple fire starts on the Umpqua National Forest from Wednesday’s thunderstorms.

Pam Sichting of the UNF said a total of 10 confirmed fires have been reported to the Roseburg Interagency Communication Center to date. Sichting said all fires are currently staffed by resources that include smokejumpers, heli-rappellers, engine modules, fallers, and hand crews all working toward containment of each fire. Helicopters are providing support to firefighters on the ground with water drops. Sichting said forest priorities include extinguishing the two fires near the Bohemia Mining District on the North Zone in the North Umpqua Ranger District.

Aerial detection flights are planned to continue to search for additional starts.
