Troopers with Oregon State Police dealt with multiple accidents on Interstate 5 Monday evening, after sudden hail storms impacted the freeway in the Oakland area.

Just after 5:35 p.m. two northbound vehicles started sliding due to the icy conditions and both left the roadway on the east side of the shoulder. A sedan impacted a slide sloping earth embankment as an SUV was also left in an uncontrolled slide before it hit the embankment.

A few minutes later a southbound driver of a sedan lost control in the same area, due to the hail, while reportedly going about sixty miles per hour. The vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage.

Around 6:15 p.m. a pickup and a semi-truck were northbound when another hail storm hit, making the roads instantly icy and slippery. The semi was attempting to slow and avoid other vehicles that were also sliding. The pickup struck the rear portion of the semi’s trailer, causing damage to both vehicles.

OSP said due to the weather there were numerous other crashes caused by icy conditions. No one was injured, according to the report.
