The deadline is approaching for new voter registrations and to make party changes.

Douglas County Clerk Daniel Loomis said both major parties have chosen to hold closed primaries. That means that partisan candidates are only seen on a voter’s ballot if they are affiliated with one of the two major political parties. Loomis said all registered voters will receive a ballot based on their residence address and party affiliation as of the registration deadline, which is April 26th.

Loomis said voters must be registered with a major party to be eligible to vote for that party’s nominees for partisan offices that will be later elected during the November General Election.

Party selection can be changed by going to www.oregonvotes.gov/myvote or by filling out a new Oregon Voter Registration Card.
