One person is dead following a fire in the Dixonville area early Friday morning.

Battalion Chief Mark Hernandez of Douglas County Fire District No. 2 said firefighters from their agency and from Glide Rural Fire Protection District were dispatched to a reported structure fire on Robin Street about five miles east of Roseburg just before 12:15 a.m. Hernandez said multiple callers reported a large fire in the area, with some reports indicating that a person might still be inside the residence.

A District No. 2 release said the first engine crew to arrive on the scene found the house fully involved with fire and initiated fire attack. Crews made entry and found one confirmed fatality. Fire crews spent extensive time overhauling and knocking down hot spots. No other structures were damaged or threatened.

The Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office are assisting with the investigation.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.
